5 out of 5 stars Unbelievable sound 11/14/2009
Reviewer: Bob   from Orange, CT
My son walked into the living room where I've place my i765. He's had nothing but top end sound equipment in his autos for years. He couldn't believe the sound coming from this sized unit. Puts my full sized sound equipment to shame as far as convenience and matches or exceeds the sound quality. And to think I almost bought the competitors brand. Received it two days after ordering. 5 out of 5 stars A great little unit 11/04/2009
Reviewer: DG   from Portsmouth, RI
I just received my i765 unit. It came in 2 days after I ordered it online. We bought it for the kitchen to replace a CD player we have had for years. What a great little unit! It sounds much better and bigger than you would expect for its size. It also looks nice on the counter.

4 out of 5 stars DVD a great Extra Feature 11/02/2009
Reviewer: A viewer   from Boston, MA
Great combination of features, very good sound. Love having the DVD as part of it. I make 6-hour Music/Audio DVD's and play them on this. I have some quibbles: Why no eject button on the remote? and I wish the display showed more DVD info such as the different titles on a disk.

4 out of 5 stars Don't ditch your HiFi system 10/19/2009
Reviewer: Carl   from Jacksonville,FL
I own a one w/o the CD and while the sound is just great,I wouldn't want to depend on it for my main sound system. My co worker owns the i765 with the DVD on it and sometimes it wouldn't read certain DVD's,mine sounds good only because my apartment isn't real big,my friends house is larger and some of the sound seems to get lost when movies are played. It's a much better unit than the bose wave radio (which i once owned) It's great if it's going to be used in a bedroom or med sized living room something like that,If you have a very large room,I think you might want to have a regular surround system.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent piece of gear 09/23/2009
Reviewer: Cartea of the North   from Maine, America
I bought this unit (my second Cambridge Soundworks radio with iPod dock) for my bedroom. The radio is great - I use it mostly for listening to Audiobooks on my iPod. The radio has a "sleep timer" so I can set it in increments of 15 minutes. The sound is super and the display is not too bright for the bedroom. I haven't tried the DVD player, but I will buy a flat screen TV soon to play my yoga routines using this radio.

4 out of 5 stars SoundWorks i765 09/19/2009
Reviewer: A viewer   from Concordia, MO USA
Excellent sound, but a couple of short comings. Purchased as replacement for a Sony Clock radio/CD player that died after 15 years. Use it bedside and usually set radio or CD to play for 1/2 hour or more after going to bed with a "sleep setting". Which I liked. This unit DOES NOT HAVE a sleep setting. Why? Also have an MP3 player by "Creative" and it has no interface for a "Creative" unit only iPod. Why? Are they not part of the same company?

5 out of 5 stars Like it better than the Bose Wave it replaced 09/18/2009
Reviewer: Mack   from Framingham, MA
I've had a Bose Wave radio for several years that I never really believed lived up to the hype. It died recently and I went looking for a replacement. One thing I didn't like about the Bose was that it had no option to adjust base or treble. Another thing that didn't work well was the AM radio (where we live is close to a 'local' AM radio station which gives a lot of interference). After some research I found the i765. It was currently 50% less than the Bose with CD player, so why not give it a try. So far I'm very pleased. With the Jog function I can set the base and treble to where I want it. It has a Loud setting that I like to use. I can choose between stereo, mono or wide - the wide being the setting I like best, especially with classical CDs. I won't be using the ipod feature yet, as our MP3 players are not ipod, but there is a front AUX that we can plug our MP3 player into with a cord. And the supplied AM antenna enables us to listen to AM radio in our home office for the first time. I highly recommend, especially at the current discounted price.

Not a bad sounding machine. but does not come with a iTouch snap-in piece, despite the fact that the box says it is "made for ipod." i called customer service and response was defensive and rude claiming they advertise "compatibility." typical corporate response. the snap-in is not a big deal, it just their rude customer response that is disappointing.

1 out of 5 stars A Big Dissapointment 07/16/2009
Reviewer: Christopher   from New York, USA
I choose this product for its aesthetic design as well as its advertised all-in-one components (radio, cd, dvd, ipod dock) Its performance could be described as flaky or, at times, completely non-responsive. It fails to read most cds, and rarely responds to inserted dvds. I'm certain this isn't a faulty isolated model as I returned it and received a new one, with the same result. As of now the only thing it is good for, is listening to the radio, and charging my ipod... a real shame from such a respectable namebrand.

SoundWorks i765 is great!!! 07/11/2009
Reviewer: Larry   from Winslow, Maine
I got my i765 very fast after ordering over 4th weekend. This unit was so easy to operate the only thing I needed the manual for is to figure out what the jog button was for. Tuning, searching, programming, time, everything was so easy. Sound is great. Bass and treble is awesome. Volume...I haven't gone all the way. Radio picks up stations really good. Perfect for my kitchen. I don't use the ipod feature so i can't respond to that but I wish I had ordered 2 when I got mine on sale for $200. Still worth the $300 now price. The only things I'd change is the display seems a bit dated but that's very minor, and it would be nice if it worked with all MP3 players. I have a Sandisk and it won't work on this system.

5 out of 5 stars Great System 07/05/2009
Reviewer: Donald Byrd   from Hebron, MD USA
I have had the i765 for about 2 weeks now and couldn't be happier to have purchased it. The unit has a loud and balanced sound to it with the ability to adjust the bass and treble up or down 4 spots from the preset level. If you want more bass turn the loudness setting on from the jog menu. It's played every disc and dvd I've put in it so far including a region 4 pal formated disc once I set the dvd drive to auto detect ntsc/pal. I only have 3 gripes with the unit and they are minor considering all that the unit does. 1 needs a second aux in port placed on the backside of the unit. 2 a button on the remote to switch between the different audio tracks on dvds without having to go back to the main menu on the dvd. 3 putting an eject button on the remote for the cd/dvd player. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and would tell anyone thinking about a new system to give this a try before plunking hard earned money down on systems that cost the same or more and do less.

5 out of 5 stars Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 06/29/2009
Reviewer: Laurie Ann Dowell   from New Hartford, New York
Was in the market to purchase a new stereo, wanted something small like a Bose was going to buy one and then talked to a techie type friend who turned me on to CSW so I went online read the reviews, talked to sound/stereo store guys... did my homework compared the 2 and ordered my CSW i765 was so excited to reciece it had to wait the whole day to set it up at home, OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The sound is amazing, unbelievable, clear, crisp, and clean! Also hooked it up to my laptop and listened to a live feed peformance it was awesome!!! Will be recieving an Ipod for my B-Day and thinking of purchasing a 2nd i765 for my Nail Salon, I highly recommend this system, my old stereo was a huge 150watt fisher rack system that was 25 years old, I have also owned other bookshelf type systems, nothing I have owned compares to this system. Ladies and gentlemen do not hesitate, you will not be sorry!

5 out of 5 stars Extremely impressive! 06/23/2009
Reviewer: Paul   from Michigan
I purchased the i765 by recommendation. For the price there is nothing close to it. It is full and natural sounding. The imaging is pretty good for as close as the L/R drivers are. The bass is deep for only a 4.5w amp. It does run out of headroom at the top of it's range, but is more than enough for a tabletop/desk unit. I highly recommend it!!!

4 out of 5 stars Amazingly versatile 06/22/2009
Reviewer: S. Jennings   from Beaufort, SC
I was looking for a nice table-top music system that didn't cost $500. This is it! Radio (FM 1, FM 2, AM, each with 6 presets), slot-loading CD player that even plays DVDs, iPod dock and an aux. input. I don't have mine hooked up to a TV, but I like being able to play concert DVDs. The i765 is hundreds less than its most obvious competition but beats it in many areas such as the versatility mentioned already. The i765 has twin alarms, but it is overkill for use as a clock radio. It is a good looking unit and solid (12 lbs). It has a thin, full featured remote, plus you can control everything from the unit itself. The i765 can pump out room-filling sound. Sound quality is good for a table-top unit, but it won't replace your audiophile system.

Reviewer: Anson   from New Jersy
Don't let my title fool you....The latter means it's smaller than I pictured it in my head. After checking all my options in this catagory, I was set on getting an i765, but my only fear was how it looked on my nightstand. I thought it was going to be a monstrosity sitting there. And to my surprise it looks PERFECT! Now that the initial shock of how well it looks on my nightstand wore off, I tinkered with almost everything (still need to hook it up to the TV). Set-up was really easy. And it sounds AWESOME. I wanna buy another one for the heck of it!

As soon as I started listening to this unit, unmistakable Henry Kloss design.Smooth sound with rich Bass even at the lowest levels(something Bose can't do).I've added a pair of Camb. Soun. Model Six speakers (another best buy) in the dining room and they are superb.I even still have my original AR-3A speakers and Cambridge Soundworks speakers are a great match.I just wish CS could get on QVC and more people could enjoy their products, and save money also.

Yes. This works with the iPhone 3G. Very Well. Just don't put the phone in airplane mode when prompted. I experienced no interference. This is by far the best table radio for the money. I now wake up to Bob and Tom - and it sounds like they are right in the room. Both talk radio and music sound great. If you are in the market, you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Superb 06/12/2009
Reviewer: Ronald J. La Borde   from Metairie, LA
I am well pleased with this 765i, it is more than I had hoped for. What a fabulous buy, the sound is sweet and most enjoyable. I have sent my 15 inch loudspeakers on to the scrapbox of 20'th century history. I'm now in the 21'st century! Again Superb! I just love the aux in and out jacks, the FM Stereo wide mode is great, the loudness selection works better than most systems at low sound and most important, it behaves properlly at higher listening levels. To play audio cassettes I,m planning to get a FM transmitter gadget for my cassette player and use aux in. Thank You for the great Father's Day!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent sound, works with iPhone 3G 06/05/2009
Reviewer: Dave G   from Newton, MA
Received the i765 today, and despite no mention of iPhone support on the box I've had no issues with it. The iPhone prompts to go into Airplane mode upon insertion but works fine without it. There has been none of the dreaded GSM buzz when making calls as well. The phone charges, and the remote control works. The only issue I have seen so far is the currently playing song does not display. Very pleased with the audio quality; I also own a 740 unit and a Model 88, and it is as good or better. Highly recommended!

4 out of 5 stars Nice but slightly overrated 03/07/2009
Reviewer: Chuck   from Tacoma, WA USA
After all the positive reviews I was slightly disappointed when I fired this thing up for the first time. The sound has plenty of bass for such a little unit but the treble needs to be turned up a bit, as it's a little flat. The onscreen treble adjustment goes from 0 to +4, which is not enough. When I play a CD I feel I don't quite get CD quality sound. The iPod adaptors need to be seriously updated, as they apparently date back to the very early models, and it's difficult to tell which one fits which iPod, as you can't rely on the tiny labels on the adapters. For example, my 80 GB iPod has no such designated adapter but I was lucky to find the adapter labelled as "30 GB" fit my iPod fairly well. Two cons I have quickly discovered are: the "wide stereo" setting (which I prefer) does not stick, so you have to reset it every time you turn on the set-this is ridiculous. Second, when a CD is ejected the disc comes out barely more than halfway, so you can't place a finger in the hole to pull the CD completely out. You pretty much have to pull the disc by the front edge, risking smudging the outer edge of the CD-another inconvenience. One nice surprise is that when playing the FM radio the artist and song is displayed. I assume this depends on whether the the station sends out this particular signal but it's very cool when it works. Overall, it's a classy CD player and FM radio but they need to work on the treble adjustment, CD eject mechanism and locking the stereo settings.

4 out of 5 stars Great Radio and iPod Platform 01/16/2009
Reviewer: A viewer   from Stewartsville, NJ US
Gave this as a gift and it is terrific. The sound is about as good as can be expected from a relatively small unit and it has enough EQ and soundstage settings without being overly complicated. I was most impressed that it charges my new iPod touch. Apparently Apple has changed the buss configuration so even most newer iPod accessories will not charge it. If it were just a bit smaller it would be the perfect nightstand iPod accessory. Have not used the DVD or S-video so can not comment on that but radio and iPod docking are top notch.

Of them all this one blew my mind. 01/14/2009
Reviewer: mirch Audiophool   from Canada
I've listened to quite a few of the table radio alarm clocks out there and the Tivoli wasn't bad but could only do so much . The Boston Accoustics was impressive big sounding but my wife snagged it to work. I recently had an I-sonic by Polk Audio and in all fairness it's a decent sounding unit BUT when I heard the i765 today I was blown away. The sound was better than any other radio of that nature including the polk Audio. I see Tivoli makes a $1000 unit which I hope sounds good but I havn't heard it. My Music Hall Radio was better than the Tivoli but it to was limited by size. I'm not sayining the i765 is without limits. but I couldn't find any while playing with it a good part of the day. The subwoofer along wirh those small driver upfront deliver a full and engaging sound and this is without the benefit of any burn in. I'm assuming over the next few weeks rhe radio will really shine but for brand new it sounds awesome. I can't think of what I don't like about it but I never tried playing it through a TV. I probably never will although I look forward to hear how the i765 does with audio DVD,s. I love this radio so fast I didn't bother A-Bing it against the i-sonic which I packed up and is for sale should anyone be wanting. The Cambridge Soundworks i765 is the best sounding radio I have heard to date. I've heard a few and so far the Cambridge is best. I would love to hear the $1000 Tivoli Radio all in one with subwoofer but considering the price tag....

4 out of 5 stars Great but could be greater if my europ. DVDs would 11/24/2008
Reviewer: Tim Palberg   from MA, USA
Got it Friday, 11/21 and set it up immediately. Normal CDs work, mp3 CDs work as well(although on that specific one it did not show any ID3 Tags). I connected it to the DVD and had difficulties with using a composite cable. No idea why. Could be the TV as well. Once I used an S-video cable it worked right away. Great sound. Radio: Excellent reception. Did'nt know that there are so many radiostations out there. Also the ipod works flawless. Here the display of the ID3 Tags worked right away. Two minor issues to complain about: 1. If you use the controls on the radio make sure that you have a bright light source close to it. Otherwise you can't see anything. Of course the remote helps but it comes down to what you have been used to. It would have been nice to backlight at least some buttons. 2. I moved over from Europe several years ago. As such I have a collection of europen DVDs (country code 2). Typically by default all DVD players only play the DVDs with a specific country code (which sucks anyway). Normally there is a work around but I have not figured out yet what could be done about the 765i. Maybe someone can help here.

3 out of 5 stars Great stereo, still needs some work as an alarm cl 11/13/2008
Reviewer: A viewer   from Seattle, WA
Sound quality is top notch but the software/interface need work. Pros: iPod dock, the extra input jacks, the Video out option, dual alarms and ability to set snooze duration. As a stereo unit it is a success but I wanted a replacement alarm for the bedroom and as such a few issues come up, Cons: The auto dim feature does not dim enough - the lcd is so bright at night you can read by its light. The jog feature 'forgets' when you set it to Wide sound staging each time you put the unit in stand-by. The clock does not display when shuffle is enabled for disc play (as a clock radio, shouldn't the time always display?). Setting the alarm time is clumsy. The snooze button on the remote is tiny. Text display doesn't work with my particular iPod Nano. There are a few other software annoyances but I'm already being nit picky - keep this unit in the living room and you'll be happy.

5 out of 5 stars Wow! 10/01/2008
Reviewer: Phil Hjemboe   from Illinois, USA
I wanted to eliminate the multiple components with their separate remote controls I've been living with so I decided to give the i765 a listen. I was initially skeptical that something the size of a boombox could satisfy my needs. Mind you, I'm not an audiophile; I wasn't looking for a high-end system. But this little box produces a sound that that just amazes me. It should make any casual listener happy. I did a side-by-side comparison with my old Bose 2-1 speaker system and was amazed how close they were in fidelity. (The Bose has a large subwoofer so it has better base.) I'll keep the Bose around, but I'm thinking it's not going to get used much now that I have the i765. I've decided to buy another for my parents who are downsizing to an apartment. The only negative I've found so far is the the lack of audio-in jacks in the back. I want to use the i765 for sound for my TV. I'll have to use the front audio jack; it isn't line-level but should work. Buy this unit - you'll love it!

Works like a charm - easy to use, great sound. One improvement idea - I would like audio-in ports in the back, so that the sound from my TV could come through the i765 without having to use the front panel aux input. That would look cleaner.

5 out of 5 stars Cambridge Soundworks i765 09/14/2008
Reviewer: Roger S. Smith   from National City, Mi USA
Wow! I can't say enough good about the i765. Bass is only where bass belongs and the same with treble. Dosn't smear everything. Beats Bose 10 days to Sunday. I have not heard sound like this with something so small. My mp3's are perfect I recorded them from my collection and kept the vinyl clicks and pops and the sound is out of this world. Am I glad I bought this. Thanks Cambridge.

5 out of 5 stars Puts the Bose tabletop units to shame... 07/31/2008
Reviewer: A viewer   from Portland, Oregon
I haven't had this for long, but already I am finding that I am not using my other systems nearly as much--it is just that good, and that convenient. Sound is really good for a little gizmo. The remote control is great. Access your ipod and your CDs and the radio waves and DVD and videos. Nice.

3 out of 5 stars Will not play some CD's 07/02/2008
Reviewer: Jeff Davern   from Little Falls, NY USA
The 765i will not play any CD's with HDCD encoding. The unit reads the tracks, says NO DISC then automatically ejects it. Called tech support, they verified it will not play HDCD encoded discs and they have no timetable for firmware updates to fix this. I hope they can resolve this issue/product design flaw. Otherwise this is an excellent product.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic value and performance 06/13/2008
Reviewer: Bob S.   from Elon, NC
I just received the i765 and I am incredibly impressed. I owned the previous generation 88CD, and that was a good system. The sound reproduction of the new model is even better, and the added features of iPod integration and a DVD player make it, in my mind, the best value in its class - certainly better than the "B-word" systems which cost hundreds more and have fewer features. Nice job!

5 out of 5 stars Convinving product 03/18/2008
Reviewer: Igal Fligman   from NY, USA
I only have this little wonder for 3 days but I loved the ease with which I was able to set it up. I had a bit of trouble learning how to (of all things!) set the alarm, but then again, I loved the fact that tech support was ready and willing to instruct me on that issue. The player is built solidly and has a nice elegant look to it. I compared it, at the store, to 3 roughly equally priced prodcuts and the sound quality was roughly the same (to be 100% honest), but the Cambridgle product ended up winning out for its apperance, simplicity of use, and competitive pricing in that high-end range of products.

5 out of 5 stars Buy It! 01/05/2008
Reviewer: TraciK   from Nw Hampshire
We've been looking for a small scale home theatre system where we didn't have to put speakers all over the room. We use it for DVDs, ipod, sound for the tv, etc. and it is a great solution. It fits on a shelf above our flat scren and the speakers are powerful and clear enough to fill our large living and dining area. No regrets and great buy for the cost.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic 12/25/2007
Reviewer: Ashley Copley   from Charleston WV USA
I received my i765 last week, and am just astounded at the clarity and volume that this little machine produces. At any volume level all dialogue is understandable, and every sound down to the clink of a glass is heard. The video quality is excellent as well. I am very happy with my purchase, and shipping was free and very quick to arrive. I highly recommend this product.
