5 out of 5 stars No Hype; The Real Deal 08/18/2009

The Model Six is No Hype; this IS the Real Deal! You will not find a better value. There is no wonder why Henry Kloss is a legend. Every home should have a set.

5 out of 5 stars The reviews are accurate! 07/29/2009
Reviewer: Stan Dow   from Norman, Oklahoma
I was skeptical about the reviews of this speaker. I have bought Altec Lansing 30 years ago, JBL, Wharfdale, Fostex (ring tweeter). Eosone, and own a pair of Carver AL III's (amazing speakers), also Bose full AM-7's, complete Mirage system (excellent) and I must admit these speakers by Henry Kloss (I've heard and admired his creations over 35 years) for the price (I paid $100 for a pair) after break in have me scratching my head. How did he do it with cheap materials, speaker components, and cabinets??????? These speakers at this price (even at the raised price of $149 a pair!!) just can't be beat, PERIOD. If you are on a budget buy these you won't regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Sound 06/24/2009
Reviewer: A viewer   from Boston, MA USA
I have two pairs in my HT setup, both front and rear L/R, along with a Newton center speaker and a CSW 8" powered sub, all connected to a Marantz surround receiver. Movies sound great, and SACDs and DVD-A multchannel music discs really shine on this system. Someday I may upgrade to a high def TV and blu-ray player, but the receiver and speakers will remain. Can't sound much better than this!

5 out of 5 stars A STEAL at this price!! 06/18/2009
Reviewer: Brian   from Liverpool, NY USA
I honestly can't believe I paid less than $150 for these speakers. What a difference from my old Bose 201's! I have these paired with an Outlaw Audio RR2150, and the sound is pretty darn good--even before the "break-in" period. I'm very happy with my purchase--for the price, you just can't go wrong!

5 out of 5 stars You will not be disappointed 03/30/2009
Reviewer: Paul B.   from Beaufort SC
Every now and then you have the good fortune to find a product that provides value way beyond what the price might suggest. The Model Sixes provide a sound that is very pleasing to the ear and at a size and price that anyone can live with. As long as you don't expect too much from these little gems and respect them for what they are, you too will be impressed. Remember too that any speaker will never sound as good as it can if it is not installed and placed properly. Once you do this these little babies will rock.

5 out of 5 stars Simple is Better! 03/27/2009
Reviewer: David W.   from Louisville, KY
I'm a fan of the old school speaker designers like Henry Kloss and Winslow Burhoe, among others. Most of the speakers designs from these men were two-ways. Sure, they could have designed any multi-way speaker thye could have imagined but they designed for accuracy in the midrange, where the heart of music resides, and they also realized that you don't need a public address style speaker that can fill up auditoriums for the home. As others have said here, these speakers have wonderful midrange and the bass response belies the size of the cabinet. There is a seemless transition between the tweeter and mid-woofer. Are they perfect? No. They lack a bit in the depth of image category. But the more I use them the better they are sounding and the more they open up. I've been building my own speaker systems for many years. But I always go back to those early days of the Advent, the Dynaco A-25, the AR speakers and the EPI speakers for my point of reference. These were the some of the best speakers ever made and this new Model Six reminds me of that heritage. This design is up-to-date and sounds fine with today's CD's and DVD's. But a set. You won't regret it.

5 out of 5 stars I own 3 pair ! ! ! 02/09/2009
Reviewer: Brian   from Maine
That fact that I own 3 pair should say enough. I've owned 1 pair for over 10 years. The others are a few years old. I really don't think you can beat the sound quality for the price. My biggest question is how do they sell their more expensive speakers because these paired with one of their powered subs will fill almost any room with sound.

5 out of 5 stars Simple, pure, clean, tough, does everything well.. 01/09/2009
Reviewer: Bill Gruber   from Akron Ohio USA
I have had a pair in my radio station office for over a decade, running 24-7 without any sound or structural issues. Very neutral, sound bigger than they look, and, one of the best-sounding "human voice" speakers at any price. Based on that, I bought a pair and split them up, using one on each my 2 home theater systems as center channel speakers. Just like car engines, in the speaker world "there ain't no substitute for cubic inches".....and the Model Six's nice big 8" woofer stays warm and clean on big male voices while smaller woofers on more expensive "center channel speaker" designs start to sound strained. Every home should have a pair of these simple, clean and reliable speakers.....they do nothing wrong and most everything very well at a fire-sale price.

I've had these for over a year, and still thoroughly enjoy the way they sound. Very full, and the price is amazing. They old their own against my other speakers which are 5 times as expensive.

5 out of 5 stars Unbelievable Value 11/02/2008
Reviewer: Andrew   from Wisconsin
These speakers are just an unbelievable value for the money. I bought my first pair in the early 90's because of the reviews and especially the price. I was absolutely amazed. These things are ugly, bulky and absolutely fabulous. The sound is smooth over every range...the bass is plentiful and everything is natural. Now I am older.....I am married to a professional opera singer...we make over 100K/yr...and guess what...we have three pairs of these speakers in three different rooms in our house. I am thinking of buying a few more pairs just in case Cambridge stops making them.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing! 09/24/2008
Reviewer: Jerry B.   from New Jersey USA
I had a pair of very expensive Polk and Boston Acoustics speakers that I was never really happy with. I ordered the Model Six speakers and had them at my door less than 48 hours later.I hooked them up,sat back and hit my cd player's play button. Wow! Clear, full sound with none of the boominess of bass reflex speakers. To think that over the years I spent so much money on other speakers that cost 3-4 times more than the Model Six.This has to be one of the best kept secrets in the audio speaker field! Buy a pair now before they are gone!

5 out of 5 stars Impressive sound at a low price. 08/27/2008
Reviewer: A viewer   from Frederick, MD USA
I will put my model 6's against Bower's and Wilkin's 600 series bookshelf speakers (around $550) any day. You just can't beat the price for the sound you get. The accoustic suspension cabinet allows you to get tight bass, even if not placed directly in the corner of the room. Be sure to get a good amp, such as a Yamaha. My RX-397 compliments these speakers well, even at 50 watts rms per channel. I like Yamaha, since they are a lower distortion rating than Denon and Onkyo amplifiers

5 out of 5 stars Long Time Model Six Owner... 08/15/2008
Reviewer: Jason Ward   from Albany, NY
I bought one of the original pair of Model Six's that were made($129.00)... They came with a gray screen cover compared to the now black cover. I also own a pair with the black screen($149.00). Ironically, I was called on the phone by Cambridge Soundworks for a review of the speaker. I was 16 at the time and thought I was an audiophile superstar because they later printed my response in their next catalog advertising the Model Six. I remember saying that they had a surprisingly active bass response and very accurate mid range. Laughing now, I only have a pair of K-Mart shelf speakers to compare them too. So in conclusion, I've owned two pair of Model Six speakers for just about 20 years now and I still use them and they never sounded better. They are a well made, quality construction speaker that are still sweet sounding after 20yrs... Hey If I could afford them at 16 anyone can own these awesome self-speakers. Five Stars!!!

5 out of 5 stars Top shelf speaker.......at a bottom shelf price! 03/13/2008
Reviewer: De-bone-air   from Maryland
I bought a refurbished pair of CSW model 6 speakers in 2006 for $90. Using these with a B&K Pro 5 pre-amp & B&K ST-140 amp might be considered overkill!? But a good pair of separates really shows what these speakers are capable of doing! Nice tight bass, smooth mids, and detailed but not etched highs. Sounds like a pair of $600 monitors? You'd certainly think so....if you didn't know what speakers you were listening to!?

5 out of 5 stars the Henry Kloss model six speaker is the genuine a 01/03/2008
Reviewer: william colbeck   from cleveland, ohio
The audio hobby has long been hyperbole-the fact of the matter is that no speaker is able to reproduce sound that is indistinguishable from a live performance, but with the right choices you can come close- and, you don't have to pay a fortune to get good sound. Actually, it's quite simple- purchase a pair of Model Six's from Cambridge Soundworks.Designed fifty years ago by audio legend Henry Kloss, they are true classics. Buy a pair now, before they are discontinued.

5 out of 5 stars Best Speaker Value I've Come Across in 30 Years 12/26/2007
Reviewer: Louis J Chevolleau III   (louis@laplaceglass.com) from Denham Springs, LA US
My home and all of its contents(including two HT systems and one Cambridge 820-cd)were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. While Christmas shopping on the Cambridge site, I came accross these for 129.99. I didn't realize that these were still being sold. Since I was fortunate to hear the original Large Advents in the 70s I decided to try a pair for my new study and add a modest subwoofer, After breaking them in (a must as most reviewers have noted) I wanted to see how they would sound on their own. While I still will connect the sub, I was suprised at the superb sound and deep solid bass these speakers produce. They are very flexible-changing their position in the room allows you to tune them. I have mine mounted flat against the wall 30 inches from the floor(how many speakers sound good against the wall) and the imaging and detail is better than most $500 speakers I have heard. With the sub crossed at 50hz this $479.00 ensemble willl give many 2G systems a challenge. System:Onkyo 8522 receiver, HSU STF-2 sub CSW M-6 This is the least expensive and best sounding stereo system I have owned.

4 out of 5 stars Good Speaker...but 12/07/2007
Reviewer: BBK   from Ringwood,NJ
These are good sounding speakers. They do remind one of the great speakers of the past. Acoustic suspension speakers have a sound of their own. The Model Six actually sounds better and can handle more power than anything else in the price range. The issue is they do require a great amount of power to drive them. My thought is when people spend that much money on the amp needed to drive the speakers they'll probably spend a bit more money on the speakers themselves. A good value, with the drawbacks.

5 out of 5 stars Unquestionably the best value speaker on the marke 11/30/2007
Reviewer: Ryan   (icebox@starstream.net) from San Jose, CA
It is ESSENTIAL that these speakers be broken in for many hours at moderate to high volume. The resulting sound quality is remarkable. The sixes have powerful output with broad frequency response, smooth articulation and deep, solid bass. These compete directly with speakers in the $500 range in my opinion, and still surpass many competitors in that category! Recommended highly.

5 out of 5 stars If you never heard a good acoustic suspension spea 08/29/2007
Reviewer: gordon Saunders   (isagordo@msn.com) from Santa Fe, NM, USA
The Model Six is a fifty + year old design with fifty + years of success behind it. A great acoustic suspension speaker produces a cleaner, deeper, more accurate bass than most subwoofers. If you love music, you must give this speaker a listen. If you want the sound of dinosaurs running through your living room, get a $1,000 subwoofer. Clean, balanced, musical, neutral, powerful--the Model Six is all of these at once. It would be great at any price, but at this price it is an incredible bargain. Discover, or rediscover the simple elegance of a well executed acoustic suspension design. Keep it long enough (15-20 hours at fairly loud volume) to break it in--it makes a huge difference.

The super sound IS quite remarkable. I cant believe these are the only speakers being made in Acoustic Suspension when clearly it is the better of the two designs,(Acoustic Suspension VS Bass Reflex). I paid twice the money for the Advents. Please Mr. Henry Kloss, make us a whole line to choose from ,of Acoustic Suspensions ,like these wonders.Amazing.Thankyou SO MUCH .

5 out of 5 stars Sorry they're gone 03/12/2007
Reviewer: Feldman   (feldman58@sbcglobal.net) from Northwest Indiana
I purchased a pair of the Model Six speakers back in 1988 and I still use them for my phonograph stereo system. These speakers have the best imaging I've ever heard and I have Polk Audio RTi series speakers for my home theater system. I'm sorry to see that these speakers are being discontinued for I think they were the best speaker on the market for the price. You can't find acoustic suspension speakers anymore and the first speakers I owned were Henry Kloss' Acoustic Research speakers. I believe acoustic suspension speakers offer the truest bass sound. I hope they bring the Model Six back because they will surely be missed.

I bought these on sale for $89.95 What a bargain.I love listening to these. I alternate between an hk 330i and a Pioneer 780, I love the sound with either reciever. Geart treble and midrange, shocking amount of bass. These are a bargain at twice the price.Someday I'll get another pair.

Reviewer: Jeff Coleman   (coleman.jeff@comcast.net) from california
I just recieved these speakers and hooked them up to an HK330i reciever (30 watts?) with 14 ga. monster cable,,,Oh my gosh!!! These speakers are GREAT!!! They completely blow away my other speakers. The amazing clear deep bass and the clarity of the mids and highs are excellent hard to believe the crossover is 2000hz. My wife won't let me get a second pair right away, but if they go on sale again....well who knows. These spaekers would still be a good deal at $300.00 a pair!!! If you can BUY THESE!

Excellent bass response, much better than ported or vented design. I've listened to loudspeakers costing from $200 up to $2,700. I will purchase another pair of the model 6. I wish there were more acoustic suspension designed loud speakers. The vented or ported loudspeakers are great for disco and heavy metal music and low powered amplifiers. Thank you Henry Kloss!

Just want to start by saying have owned this speaker system for now close to 10 years. For a bookshelf of this size it really delievers on the sound. This is an excellent speaker that can handle workouts. They have outlived 3 recievers in the course of my ownership and never once thought about replacing them.

Nothing fancy about these - no double secret engineering breakthrough, no exotic materials, no cutting edge technology. What you do get is classic Henry Kloss design - fantastic sound from a set of speakers that won't put a serious dent in your finances. Just order a pair and listen to them. You won't be disappointed and you won't send them back.
