3 out of 5 stars Dissapointed 02/17/2009
Reviewer: A viewer   from New Hampshire USA
I went for the Ambiance 82 for the higher wattage rating and more bass. They handle my Harmon Kardon amplifier pretty good on most music, however I have had several songs or scenes in movies that push the bass capability of this speaker. I hear what appears to be crackling or popping when the bass is pushed to moderate levels. There are articles online explaining why this happens. It is more common on lower quality speakers. Cambridge soundworks support told me it was a loose connection. after extensive troubleshooting, I contacted them again (twice) for help. I have not recieved a response. I packed additional insulation behind the speaker and found some improvement. It is not a loose connection.

5 out of 5 stars Great Speakers / Great Price! 12/22/2008
Reviewer: Dino Brava   from The land of the Yeti in Norhtern Michigan
I bought two pairs of the Ambience 82 In-Wall speakers and they are fantastic! I did spend extra time sound-proofing the installation cut-out area. I used styrofoam sheeting and insulation batting. The dog-legs that attach the speakers to the wall worked like a charm. I really achieved a very tight fit to the wall with all four speakers. My main purpose in buying these speakers was to have decent sound in my living room and den for Christmas. When I first heard an acoustic guitar solo coming out of these speakers my jaw almost fell off! Simply awesome! These speakers far surpassed my expectations and I look forward to listening to them for years to come. I am a bit of a speaker snob and tend to listen to only expensive mini-monitor speakers with large subwoofers. The Ambience 82's do an outstanding job on jazz and acoustic music and will do the trick for all but the most demanding and bass heavy music. Hint: Buy a high performance stud finder, a good dry wall saw, a level (laser levels rule!), a cordless drill with a wide range of drill bits, and a fish tape to run the speaker wire. Good Luck! (Or you could always hire someone to install them).

5 out of 5 stars Fear not... 09/23/2008

Fantastic! 42" Panasonic Plasma w/ Charter HD cable. Mounted on wall in master bedroom. Powered with a 2 channel Niles TVA-50 amplifier; the amp sits flat behind TV, all the wires are hidden, and the sound explodes! For football and baseball 5.1 really doesn't improve the audio over a quality 2 channel stereo. For those so inclined, a 5.1 with four of these and a Newton center would be outstanding driven by a Marantz or Onkyo. Easy installation... sound as good as my T-100 CSW towers at a fraction of the cost and low-vis aestetics. Do it!

5 out of 5 stars Great speakers for new room 04/02/2008
Reviewer: jim   from New York
To appease my wife who doesn't like the looks of speakers I agreed to go for the "transparent" look of in-walls. My fear was that they would not have the range and punch of traditional acoustic suspension boxes. Although my room is 17X17 with 9 foot walls and a 14 foot vaulted ceiling they fill the entire space with sound to spare. Even at low volume they have a full, rich sound.

5 out of 5 stars Great - Whole house sound 12/14/2006
Reviewer: J. J. Jodele   (jodele@hotmail.com) from LA, CA USA
I have these speakers on zone 2 of my Marantz SR8500 A/V receiver. I ran these speakers through a Sonance SE275 amp and through a SpeakerCraft VSR-100 volume control (http://www.speakercraft.com/download2.php?id=277). I did not wand a knob (a la Niles) in a contemporary house, so these satisfied my needs. The speakers were painted the same color as the walls, so they don’t stand out…the wife and I like the stealthiness! There is no equipment in the room and any sound available from the A/V receiver is available in the remote room. I have not heard a better sounding in-wall speaker. Free standing speakers will get you a better, fuller sound…but not the goal. The sound quality is fantastic for the price and functionality. I bought another pair for another room…
