4 out of 5 stars GREAT SOUND 02/13/2010
Reviewer: Steve Hill   from Indianapolis, IN
I have a small sound production company, and own 3 of these. All 3 are plagued with a volume control that produces static when you turn it up or down. Other than that, the sound is unbelievable. I have used this over seas with a battery to DJ for 50 people, to using for sound for a presentation with an multimedia projector.

5 out of 5 stars Best travel system available...period. 01/13/2010
Reviewer: Mot   from Depends on the time of year. :-)
I’ve owned the Model 12 for about 8 years now, and depend on it as my sole system 6 months out of the year. I am a snowbird and live in Arizona during my winters, to escape the dreaded weather of Omaha. I am somewhat of an audiophile, and it kills me not having my big system with me…but I have put together a wonderful travel system with the Model 12 as the foundation. Of course I can’t leave well enough alone…so I am always tweaking and experimenting with different setups. Some people have expressed issues due to heat buildup in the amp. I solved this by making my own speaker cables. I bought 12awg, military spec, silver coated, pure copper strands, wrapped in Teflon off ebay. Twisted them with a drill and clamp, and tested my system before and after. The new cables lower the resistance so much that I saw a 3 decibel increase in sound level, at the same volume setting. This makes the amp work less, and thus I feel barely any heat from it. I literally don’t turn it above ¼ volume, as it’s just too loud. Quality cables make a real difference in audio excellence. The bass is pretty good for a 6.5 inch driver in an acoustic sealed case. It isn’t going to shake the house, but it’s more than ample for music and movies. The satellites have excellent imaging and a very open, relaxed soundstage. When I am in AZ, I use a pair of Mirage OMD-5 bookshelf speakers instead of the included ones, and the amp is able to push them easily. An audiophile friend of mine was over and I played the DVD-audio of The Beetle’s Love, and he was blown away by the quality of the sound that is produced by this system. I highly recommend picking up one of these systems. It has served me well, and will continue to do so long into the future. I am planning on using it in my RV, for several months each summer, as I explore the US. How perfect is it that it comes with a 12volt plug already. Absolutely the best travel system made. Mot

5 out of 5 stars Dumb Dad 08/12/2009
Reviewer: A viewer   from Revere,MA
I let my son use "my" Model Twelve about 7 years ago. he will not give it back.I have owned many Cambridge Soundworks speakers but this is by far the best sounding and powerful portable set I have. I am stuck with the potabag set that was for him.Do not hesitate , they are worth the money. My son has been playing them full blast for years and I can not believe he has not blown them up.You would think he was playing a full size stereo setup!

1 out of 5 stars same problem twice 07/05/2009
Reviewer: Bob   from boston
I bought the model 12 about 2 years ago and have put the unit through very light use. After 11 months and maybe 20 hours one channel began to distort. Cambridge soundworks replaced the entire unit under warrantee. Now this weekend after about 40 hours use the unit is again distorting in one channel. This appears to be a thermal issue as the unit can get warm at any volume and it's not very well vented. This is a great sounding unit but I would have to say not reliable in it's present form. I would guess the older units are made better than the new units. This is discouraging and now out of warrantee.

5 out of 5 stars 8 yrs and going strong 06/27/2009
Reviewer: MJA   from Cincinnati, Ohio USA
I bought my system in 1999 - 2000. I take it to my property and use it on the weekends. I have no power in my cabin so I have to rely on batteries and a small generator. It is still working like a champ. I am in the deep woods in all types of environments from Extreme cold to Hot & Humid. The Bescor battery you recommend that I purchased with the system was replaced after 8 years of use(Great Buy). Thank you Cambridge Soundworks for all the great music you have given me in the most remote area of the USA.
