ANDOVER, MA, June 21, 2006 - Cambridge SoundWorks®
today introduces its Newton Series® HD Loudspeaker line,
a speaker series whose attractive style and sleek design,
as well as audio performance, complement the elegance and
video image quality of today's best flat panel TVs - at the
best value possible. The Newton Series® HD Home Theater
Loudspeaker series will be available for purchase in July
at Cambridge SoundWorks' retail locations, at www.cambridgesoundworks.com
or by calling 1-800-FOR-HIFI. Cambridge SoundWorks is a wholly
owned subsidiary of Creative Technology Ltd (Nasdaq: CREAF).
"Flat panel high definition television has raised the bar
in terms of superior image quality and fashionable appearance,"
said Rob Mainiero, General Manager of Cambridge SoundWorks.
"We felt it was important to rise to this new standard and
develop a series of stylish, high performance, high value
loudspeakers that offer contemporary design and superior audio
performance that are the perfect complement to HDTV technology."
Newton Series HD loudspeakers offer a visually elegant and
exceptional home theater sound experience, at an affordable
price. Unlike other "flat panel" speaker offerings which use
a small number of relatively large drivers, each Newton Series
MC600 HD ($499.99/each) loudspeaker uses multiple small and
light drivers. The benefits of this speaker configuration
are twofold: high resolution audio performance and uniform,
wide dispersion which immerses everyone in the audio action.
The companion Newton Series P300 HD ($999.99/each) powered
subwoofer also features a unique driver configuration which
virtually eliminates vibration - a principal source of distortion
in subwoofers.
The slender and elegant Newton Series MC600 HD speakers are
perfect for wall mounting next to flat panel TVs 40 inches
and larger, and the slim Newton Series P300 HD powered subwoofer
blends in seamlessly with today's modern home theater set-ups.
Engineering HD Audio Performance
Cambridge SoundWorks' audio engineers recognized that, just
as HDTV requires smaller, more numerous pixels to create a
high definition image, the highest resolution audio performance
could only be obtained by using multiples of small diameter,
low mass drivers. Due to their size and mass, larger drivers
can compromise the clarity of the audio performance because
they cannot react to the audio input signal as quickly or
accurately as small and light drivers. Large drivers also
do not offer dispersion patterns that are as broad or uniform.
Each Newton Series MC600 HD speaker employs four 3.5 inch
midrange/woofers, which are unique designs developed for this
speaker and application only. Their low-mass diaphragms deliver
lightening fast audio transient response, enabling them to
track the most intricate audio signals nearly perfectly. The
result is dynamic, high definition sound and superb realism.
The outer structure of the MC600 HD speaker is a pressure-cast
aluminum housing, which offers greater rigidity than plastic,
MDF or extruded aluminum enclosures. This rigidity guarantees
a very stable baffle on which to mount its drivers. Because
these rigid cabinets vibrate less, they reduce cabinet-induced
distortion. Also their "dual wall" construction, essentially
an enclosure within an enclosure, further eliminates the effect
of any internal vibrations.
The inherently broad and uniform dispersion of the MC600HD's
design makes speaker placement less critical. Home theater
users who can't identify or place themselves in a "sweet spot"
will not miss out on panoramic audio action since sound is
distributed evenly throughout the listening environment. Positioned
vertically, the MC600 HD can be used as left and right main
speakers or rear surround speakers. Placed horizontally, an
MC600 HD makes an excellent front center channel, and in a
6.1 surround mode, a perfectly balanced rear center channel
speaker.
Further contributing to detail and clarity, the MC600 HD
speakers feature boundary compensation EQ circuitry, which
adjusts the speaker's mid-to low-frequency output to avoid
interference from sounds which can be strongly reflected from
the wall on which the speaker is mounted. The speaker's response
can be adjusted for wall mounted, or "free-standing" installations.
The P300 HD powered subwoofer features a unique "boxer" design
using six high-excursion 6 ˝ inch tranducers mounted on opposite
faces of the enclosure. Vibrations are eliminated by having
each driver work in opposition to its mate on the opposite
baffle.
Pricing and Availability
Newton Series HD Loudspeakers will be available in July and
retail for $499.99 each. The Newton Series P300 HD Powered
Subwoofer retails for $999.99. And, for maximum mounting flexibility
and aesthetics, décor-enhancing floor and table stands are
available for the MC600 HD Loudspeakers. The Newton Series
HD line can be purchased directly at Cambridge SoundWorks'
retail locations, on the Internet at www.cambridgesoundworks.com
