SoundWorks’ Introduces MicroWorks II
Personal Entertainment Speaker System
Company Pioneered Concept of Affordable, High Performance Multimedia
Speakers
ANDOVER,
MA - April 13, 2004 - A decade ago audio manufacturer, Cambridge
SoundWorks® pioneered the concept of affordable, high performance multimedia
speakers for the PC. Today, the company is re-introducing one of its original
products, MicroWorks. MicroWorks® II ($149.99) is a three-piece amplified
speaker system consisting of a pair of desktop satellite speakers and
a subwoofer aimed at those who want great sound for their PC or any audio
device with a headphone jack - at a moderate price. Cambridge SoundWorks
is a wholly owned subsidiary of Creative Technology Ltd (Nasdaq: CREAF).
"Ten years ago a small product by the name of SoundWorks shocked the
speaker world and launched an entire category of satellite/subwoofer speaker
systems for the PC," said Michael Sullivan, president of Cambridge SoundWorks.
"Today, Cambridge SoundWorks, along with our parent company, Creative
Labs, continues to lead the charge in delivering some of the best, most
affordable cutting-edge speakers for personal entertainment."
The new MicroWorks II has been outfitted with new features to enhance
the sound and look of the system, without increasing the price. MicroWorks
II features two 15 watt, compact satellite speakers based on the company's
high-performance Newton Series® loudspeakers. It also features a 40 watt
subwoofer that delivers strong and powerful low bass to go with the satellite
speakers' crystal clear high ranges. The system is powerful enough to
produce room-filling acoustic output, similar to that of a home stereo.
Each 4.5-inch wide desktop satellite speaker contains a 3.5-inch long-throw
driver that reproduces high and mid frequencies to reach below 45Hz. The
satellite speakers are magnetically shielded so that they can be placed
close to the monitor or the TV set without causing distortion. Each satellite
speaker comes outfitted with desktop stands that are angled upward, enabling
great sound to be transmitted equally clear to listeners, seated or standing.
A wall-mounting provision is also included, allowing flexibility in speaker
placement.
Frequencies below 120Hz are handled by the separate subwoofer that can
be tucked away behind the TV or under the desk, freeing desktop space.
The subwoofer's small footprint also minimizes the amount of floor space
it takes up. It houses a 6 ½-inch woofer with an 8-inch passive radiator
in a S.L.A.M. (Symmetrically Loaded Acoustic Module) enclosure.
MicroWorks II features built-in bi-amplification for bass signals and
mid/high frequency signals to deliver clean, undistorted sound. It accepts
and mixes inputs from two stereo minijacks, making it possible, for example
to simultaneously listen to music from a CD player and hear sound generated
from the computer.
The system is outfitted with an in-line remote volume control with headphone
jack and power switch that can attach to the speaker stand for convenience.
It also features a 12-foot cable.
