New High-end Table Radios are Great Gifts, Perfect for the Home and
More
ANDOVER, MA, April 22, 2003 - Cramped for space in the kitchen, living room or den but have a hankering
for a high-end audio system? You're in luck. Today, great sounding audio
systems don't have to mean a mountain of components and multiple speakers.
There are some new options in home audio, including the growing category
of high-end table radios.
p> One company leading this trend is Cambridge SoundWorks. The company's
new SoundWorks Radio ($249.99) may look like a high-end table radio, but
it's actually a stereo system in disguise. It features something that
great stereo systems offer -- bass. Unlike other high-end table radios,
it's outfitted with three speakers, including a powered subwoofer. The
result is a sound system that offers rich, natural, room-filling sound
-- a feature normally associated with larger stereo systems.
"Table radios are a perfect alternative for those who want great sound
but don't have room for a larger system," says Cambridge SoundWorks' audio
expert, Fred Pinkerton. "If you were to listen to the SoundWorks Radio
blindfolded, you'd probably think it was a stereo system with speakers
six feet apart from each other. It simply sounds much bigger than it looks."
Pinkerton notes that today's audio manufacturers are looking to incorporate
added features into their radio lines to appeal to consumers' growing
demands for great sound, ease of use, but also the latest technology.
For instance, the SoundWorks Radio features new functionality such as
support of RDS (Radio Data Service), which displays text from stations
such as the song currently being played. Ease of use has also been enhanced
with features like the radio's JOG control, a single button that allows
the user to adjust radio functions like bass, treble and alarm modes.
The radio also features front and rear auxiliary inputs for CD or MP3
players; dual alarms that wake to tone or music; and an ultra-compact
remote control.
