Cambridge SoundWorks Introduces Stylish, New High Performance Radio Line
The SoundWorks Radio Offers Improved Sound and Added Functionality at Low Price Like Award-winning Model 88
ANDOVER, MA, April 22, 2003 - uilding on the success of its Model 88 by Henry Kloss® tabletop radio
series, Cambridge SoundWorks® today unveiled a new line of high-end radios
- The SoundWorks Radio™ series. The line begins with the new SoundWorks
Radio available today, and will also feature a CD-version in coming months.
The SoundWorks Radio was designed to offer consumers the performance of
a component stereo system at a fraction of the cost of competing models
and retails at just $249.99. Cambridge SoundWorks, a manufacturer and
retailer of home-theater, home-audio and multimedia products, is a wholly
owned subsidiary of Creative Technology Ltd (Nasdaq: CREAF).
One noticeable new feature of the radio is its sleek look, which mirrors
the company's high-end Newton Series™ loudspeaker line. New functionality
has also been added, such as support of RDS™ (Radio Data Service), which
displays text from stations such as the song currently being played. Ease
of use has also been enhanced with features like the radio's JOG control,
a single button that allows the user to adjust radio functions like bass,
treble, and alarm modes. Cambridge SoundWorks has also improved the audio
quality of its sophisticated stereo speaker system with a built-in subwoofer
- the only single-cabinet radio on the market to offer a dedicated bass
speaker.
"The success we achieved when we introduced our Model 88 series indicates
that consumers want an affordable alternative when looking to buy a premium
radio," said Michael Sullivan, president of Cambridge SoundWorks. "Cambridge
SoundWorks' years of audio manufacturing expertise enables us to develop
a product that performs like a component stereo system, but offer it to
the consumer at a fraction of the cost of other high-quality radios on
the market."
Improved Features, Ease of Use Functionality
Like its predecessor, the Model 88, the SoundWorks Radio uses high performance
speakers that are combined with a special contoured amplifier to produce
rich, natural, accurate sound. It is the only one-cabinet radio to feature
a compact, three-speaker acoustic system for superb stereo fidelity. Unlike
other premium radios that provide only one speaker per channel, the SoundWorks
Radio uses an extra speaker (the subwoofer) to produce the strong bass
usually available only from component stereos.
The SoundWorks Radio has been outfitted with a large, backlit display
panel featuring two lines of 16 characters. This intuitive display makes
it easy for the user to walk through radio functions, such as setting
the radio's two wakeup settings. The tuner also supports display of RDS
text from many FM radio stations, displaying information like station
call letters and songs being played. Further enhancing ease of use, the
radio's display system interacts with its JOG control to allow the user
to adjust bass, treble, stereo modes, loudness, dual alarms and text modes.
JOG functionality and alarm features are available in a choice of 5 languages
(English, French, German, Spanish or Italian).
A superb FM stereo tuner and clean AM reproduction with sixteen FM station
presets are also featured. The AM tuner offers 8 direct access preset
buttons, which can also be programmed using the remote control. The radio
also features a convenient front panel input, along with a headphone jack
and rear panel auxiliary input. The front panel input jack makes it simple
to connect portable audio devices, like MP3 players.
The SoundWorks Radio is outfitted with dual alarms that play music or
a "tone" sound. Alarm activation, sleep delay and snooze options are easily
controlled from the palm-sized remote control, which duplicates all the
controls on the radio itself. The clock features a built-in backup battery,
so if a power outage occurs this will not affect timekeeping accuracy.
A "Sleep" mode turns the radio sound off after a user-adjustable 15 to
120 minute interval. The display automatically adjusts its brightness
to suit the ambient lighting.

The SoundWorks Radio retails for $249.99 and is available in black or
ivory. It can be purchased directly at Cambridge SoundWorks' retail locations,
