CAMBRIDGE SOUNDWORKS BEGINS SHIPPING NEWTON SERIES HIGH PERFORMANCE SPEAKER LINE

Newton, MA - January 16, 2001 - Cambridge SoundWorks®, a multi-channel
audio and video manufacturer and retailer, today announced the shipping
of its new Newton Series. The Cambridge SoundWorks' Newton Series is a
line of high performance speakers that combine high quality sound and
high-end style, but are priced less than comparable models costing upwards
of $5,000 or more. The Newton Series is available exclusively at Cambridge
SoundWorks' retail locations throughout the United States, online via
its Internet-arm, cambridgesoundworks.com? and through the company's catalog division
at 1-800-FOR-HIFI . Cambridge SoundWorks is a wholly owned subsidiary of
Creative (NASDAQ: CREAF).

The Newton Series consists of 12 new components. This includes Newton
Theater home theater packages that are made up of Newton Series satellites,
surrounds, center channels and powered subwoofers. Along with this, the
Newton Series also features a line of no-compromise, floor-standing loudspeakers
with a combination of great looks, superb sound, and a profound deep bass
capability, as well as three high performance bookshelves.
Newton Series Product and Prices
- Newton Series MC200 - A compact two-way "satellite" main speaker
with a 4" woofer and a 1" soft-dome tweeter Available in glass-reinforced
composite polymer slate or white.
- Newton Series MC300 - A compact mini-monitor with dual 4" woofers
and a 1" soft-dome tweeter. This enables the same model speaker to be
used vertically as main speakers, and horizontally as a center. Available
in glass-reinforced composite polymer slate or white.
- Newton Series MC500 - This three-way loudspeaker is equally
suited for center-channel and left/right satellite use. Transducers
include dual 6-1/2" woofers, a 4" midrange and 1" soft-dome tweeter.
The midrange and tweeter housing may be rotated for optimum dispersion
in either horizontal or vertical placement.
- Newton Series M50 - A compact bookshelf loudspeaker with a
5-1/4" woofer and a 1" soft-dome tweeter. Available in genuine wood
veneer with solid hardwood bolsters or with an optional fine-textured
paint finish.
- Newton Series M60 - A high performance two-way bookshelf loudspeaker
with a genuine wood veneer cabinet or optional painted finish. The 6-1/2"
woofer and 1" soft dome tweeter provide smooth, full range performance
either used alone or when used with a subwoofer.
- Newton Series M80 - A top-of-the-line bookshelf speaker, featuring
a three-way design which can be optimized for vertical or horizontal
placement. The transducer compliment includes an 8" woofer, 3.5" midrange
and ¾" soft dome tweeter.
- Newton Series P500 - A compact, high-output subwoofer with
audiophile quality performance. The separate control box and infra red
remote make output fine-tuning a snap, while easing wire management.
The dual-8" woofer acoustic suspension design and 500Watt BASH amplifier
combine to deliver tight, detailed response to 20Hz with unusually high
output for such a compact enclosure.
- Newton Series P1000 - Like the Newton Series P500, the Newton
Series P1000 offers a compact, high output subwoofer with audiophile
quality performance, featuring a separate control box and infra red
remote. The PS1000 features a dual-10" woofer acoustic suspension design
and 1000Watt BASH amplifier combined to deliver tight, detailed response
to 20Hz with higher output levels than the PS500.
- Newton Series S200 - A rear/surround loudspeaker with selectable
dipole or bipole radiation patterns. Dipole mode is favored for traditional
movie surround while bipole mode is preferred for music soundfields.
- Newton Series S300 - A versatile rear/surround loudspeaker
with three selectable dispersion patterns. A two-way direct radiator
mode, voice matched to the Newton Series main speakers, is available
when identical tonal balance is desired from front and rear speakers.
Dipole mode is available for traditional movie surround applications,
while bipole mode is preferred for musical soundfield applications.
- Newton Series T300 - A technologically advanced, floor-standing
loudspeaker with great looks, superb sound, and a deep, strong bass
output. The speaker consists of a two-way d'Appolito main section featuring
dual 4" mid-woofers and a 1" soft-dome tweeter, combined with a powered
subwoofer lower section utilizing a 10" woofer and 10" passive radiator
powered by a 150-watt digital amplifier.
- Newton Series T500 - A no-compromise, floor-standing loudspeaker
with a unique combination of great looks, superb sound, and a profound
deep bass capability. Cambridge SoundWorks' technological prowess combines
a three-way upper section featuring a 6-1/2" woofer, 4" midrange, and
1" soft-dome tweeter, with a powered subwoofer lower section utilizing
a 10" woofer and 12" passive radiator powered by a 300-watt digital
amplifier.
