| The History Of Cambridge SoundWorks
Cambridge SoundWorks was founded in 1987 with the specific mission to
design and manufacture high quality, high performance loudspeakers and
audio products to be marketed directly to the consumer. From its inception,
the company's success was significant and its products received critical
acclaim.
The company started as an inventive direct marketer and went on to form
its catalog business. Cambridge SoundWorks opened its first retail showroom
in Newton, Massachusetts in 1991. The unique selling formula developed
in its first store proved successful and eventually spawned the opening
of 30 showrooms in New England and metropolitan San Francisco. Cambridge
SoundWorks would become one of the first companies to sell consumer electronics
on the Internet.
Today, Cambridge SoundWorks manufactures over 60 different models of
home stereo, home theater, multimedia speakers and assorted electronics
products. These products, along with other major brands of high-performance
audio and video components, are sold through its retail locations, online
at www.cambridgesoundworks.com, and via its national catalog and Call
Center operation at 800-FOR-HIFI . Cambridge SoundWorks products are also
sold globally via parent company, Creative Technology Ltd., the worldwide
leader in digital entertainment products for the personal computer and
the Internet.
Long Standing History of Product Innovation
In 1994 Cambridge SoundWorks introduced the first high performance powered
loudspeaker system that could be attached to any product with a headphone
jack, including personal computers equipped with sound cards. The acceptance
of this product from the PC arena was unprecedented in the speaker category
and resulted in the company's products quickly establishing the reference
standard for PC multimedia speakers.
In 1996, as a result of the broad
success of Cambridge SoundWorks' multimedia product line, Creative Technology
approached the company with a joint venture opportunity. Cambridge SoundWorks
would design and manufacture a line of affordable, desktop multimedia
speakers to be marketed under the Creative brand. In addition to the OEM
relationship, Creative became the exclusive worldwide distributor for
the Cambridge SoundWorks line of multimedia products.
This joint venture would lead
to the acquisition of Cambridge SoundWorks in 1997 by Creative. Supported
by the combined R&D, engineering, manufacturing and distribution resources
of the two companies, the Cambridge SoundWorks brand quickly achieved
a 25% market share position in the multimedia speaker category and has
held the number one market share position in the U.S. and Europe ever
since. Cambridge SoundWorks has entered OEM partnerships with IBM and
Gateway, which have resulted in speaker sales numbering in the millions
of units. In tandem with the growth of its multimedia line, Cambridge
SoundWorks' line of home audio and home theater speakers has enjoyed continued
sales growth.
Cambridge SoundWorks has the ability,
through its vast engineering and R&D resources, to design and manufacture
products that meet the demands of today's marketplace. In addition to
the right products at the right price, the company offers a sophisticated
Tech Support and Customer Care organization, and an experienced, dedicated
management team. |
